Dr. Erica Zimmerman Aitken
DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS
Dr. Aitken is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and board certified Sports Specialist (SCS), who focuses on orthopedic dysfunctions and athletic injuries. She is also a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
Dr. Aitken began her academic career at Stony Brook University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2002. At Stony Brook, she worked as an intern for the Sports Medicine Department treating Division 1 collegiate athletes from more than 24 varsity sports teams, which led her to complete her athletic training certification in 2002. After graduation, she attended New York University and obtained her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2005.
Since her graduation from NYU and prior to beFIT THERAPY, Dr. Aitken has worked full-time as a physical therapist in the private practice setting here in New York City. In addition to working in the clinical setting, she has also worked part-time as an athletic trainer for the Long Island Silver Bullets Girls AAU Basketball Association and the national championship winning New York Athletic Club Men's Rugby team. Continuing to work as an ATC has given her experience in observing and treating athletic injuries as they happen, providing insight into the specific progression of an inury from the time it occurs through the end of the recovery process.
As a licensed health professional, Dr. Aitken is always looking to further diversify, grow, and improve her skill set by participating in continuing education. Most recently, she has taken manual therapy courses offered through the elite Osteopathic Medicine Program at Michigan State University. Through her additional course work and years of clinical experience, she has gained extensive knowledge of proper human body mechanics, which when applied to patient treatment, will enhance function and athletic performance.
